Did you know that back in the day, tapestry had a purely utilitarian function? It was used to protect medieval rooms from cold and damp.
Over time, tapestries became more elaborate, with artists creating true masterpieces. All of the renowned manufacturers were based in Northern France or Flanders, about 50 kilometres from Belgian Quality.
The erstwhile splendour of Flanders could not be represented any better than by one of its most famous export products: Belgian tapestry. Artistry and handicraft were woven together to produce real gems, which have found their way into private collections, famous museums and public buildings around the world.
